What makes the Pollock Technique different

No needle, no scalpel, a specific method for reliable occlusion.

Every step is engineered around three things: less pain, less recovery, and reliable long-term effectiveness.

  1. 01

    Technique

    No needle for anaesthetic

A precision MadaJet spray delivers local anaesthetic through the skin in milliseconds. No injection, no needle prick, no needle anxiety.

  2. 02

    Technique

    No scalpel

One tiny opening is made with a fine sharpened forceps. There are no cuts, no stitches, and typically no visible scar.

  3. 03

    Technique

    Fascial interposition

The vas is sealed and the fascia layer is placed between the two cut ends. This specific method is associated with very low reported failure rates.

  4. 04

    Experience

A procedure of around fifteen minutes

The Pollock Technique is designed to be quick and efficient. Most men are on the couch for less than a quarter of an hour.

  5. 05

    Experience

    Gentle recovery by design

The tiny opening, no sutures and precise technique are all engineered to reduce bruising, swelling and downtime.

  6. 06

    Confirmation

    Same day aftercare pack

You leave with a written recovery plan, contact details for the clinical team, and a booked semen analysis at 12 to 16 weeks.

  7. 07

    Confirmation

    Confirmation by semen analysis

The procedure is confirmed effective only after a clear semen sample. Other contraception is needed until then.

Track record: over 200,000 procedures performed by Dr Pollock and licensed clinicians worldwide.

Who it suits

The men who benefit most.

The Pollock Technique suits any man ready for a permanent decision. It is particularly transformative for patients with needle anxiety.

  • Family complete

The most common reason. You and your partner have decided your family is complete and you want a reliable permanent option.

  • Needle phobic

Patients who dread injections are the group who most often say the Pollock Technique changed their mind about vasectomy entirely.

  • Wanting the gentlest method

If you have researched the options and want the least invasive path, the Pollock Technique is designed for exactly that.

  • A busy diary

The one visit model and short recovery suit men who cannot easily take multiple days off work.

  • Nervous about the procedure

No needle and no scalpel removes two of the biggest sources of anxiety men report before a vasectomy.

  • Comparing methods carefully

Suits patients who have read about standard no-scalpel vasectomy and want to understand what the Pollock Technique adds.

  • Wanting a proven method

The fascial interposition step is associated with very low reported failure rates in published series.

  • Travelling for care

The single-visit model works well for patients travelling into Birmingham from across the UK.

How the visit runs

Consultation and procedure, often the same day.

Most patients complete assessment, procedure and aftercare briefing in a single visit lasting 45 to 60 minutes.

  1. 01

    Arrival and consultation

The surgeon reviews your history, confirms consent and answers your questions. Around 15 to 20 minutes.

  2. 02

    Anaesthetic by MadaJet

A brief spray through the skin. No injection. Most men describe it as a light snap of pressure.

  3. 03

    Procedure

Around 15 minutes on the couch. A single tiny opening, sealing of the vas, and fascial interposition.

  4. 04

    Aftercare briefing

You leave with a written recovery plan, direct contact for the clinical team, and your semen analysis pre-booked.

When to contact the clinic

Recovery is usually uneventful. These are the exceptions.

The Pollock Technique is designed to reduce complications. If any of the following occur, contact the clinical team the same day.

  • Heavy scrotal swelling

Some swelling and bruising is normal. A tense, painful, rapidly enlarging swelling needs same day clinical review.

  • Fever above 38C

A temperature after a vasectomy should be checked. Contact the clinic or your GP promptly.

  • Pain not settling

Discomfort should ease over the first week. Escalating pain from day 3 onwards should be reviewed.

  • Redness spreading

A spreading area of redness or warmth around the wound may point to infection and needs review.

  • Wound discharge

Any pus or heavy discharge from the tiny opening should be assessed the same day.

  • Lump in the scrotum

A small pea-sized firm lump can be normal healing tissue. A larger or tender lump should be checked.

  • Blood in the semen

A little blood in the first few samples is common. Persistent frank blood should be reviewed.

  • Chronic testicular pain

Post-vasectomy pain lasting beyond three months is uncommon but real. Ask for a specialist review.

  • Positive semen sample

A confirmed non-clear sample after 16 weeks needs repeat testing and a discussion with the surgeon.

Recovery

Gentler by design, confirmed by a clear sample.

The tiny opening, absence of sutures and precise technique combine to reduce bruising and downtime. Effectiveness is confirmed by semen analysis at 12 to 16 weeks.

A quiet reminder

You are not sterile on day one.

Use other contraception until your semen analysis confirms a clear result. This is true of every vasectomy method, the Pollock Technique included.

  1. 01 Day 0 to 2

    Rest and elevate

Take it easy at home for 24 to 48 hours. Supportive underwear and simple pain relief are usually enough.

  2. 02 Day 3

    Back to desk work

Most patients are comfortable returning to office or home working by day 3. Avoid heavy lifting.

  3. 03 Day 7 to 10

    Gym and heavier activity

A gradual return to the gym, running and heavier lifting from around day 7 to 10, guided by comfort.

  4. 04 Week 12 to 16

    Semen analysis

A clear sample confirms the procedure has worked. Use other contraception until you are given the all clear.

Frequently asked

The Pollock Technique, answered.

The six questions patients considering the Pollock Technique in Birmingham ask most often.

  • Is it really no needle?

Yes. Local anaesthetic is delivered through the skin by a MadaJet spray device in a fraction of a second. There is no injection and no needle prick. This is one of the two features that defines the Pollock Technique.

  • Is it really no scalpel?

Yes. A single tiny opening is made in the scrotal skin with a fine sharpened forceps, not a scalpel. The opening is small enough that it usually needs no stitches and typically leaves no visible scar.

  • How does the cost compare to a standard no-scalpel vasectomy?

A private Pollock Technique™ vasectomy in Birmingham is typically £950 to £1,450 all-inclusive. Standard no-scalpel vasectomy in the private sector runs around £600 to £1,000. The premium reflects the licence, the specific technique, the MadaJet anaesthetic and the single-visit model.

  • What is the success rate?

Published series of the Pollock Technique report very low failure rates. Success is confirmed for every patient individually with a semen analysis at 12 to 16 weeks. No vasectomy method is 100 per cent, so other contraception is needed until you are given the all clear.

  • Is recovery genuinely faster than a standard vasectomy?

Most patients describe less bruising and swelling than they expected. Desk work by day 3 and gym by day 7 to 10 is typical. The tiny opening and lack of sutures are the main reasons recovery tends to be gentler.

  • Who is Dr Neil Pollock?

Dr Neil Pollock is a Canadian physician based in Vancouver who developed and refined this specific no-scalpel, no-needle vasectomy method. He has performed the procedure many tens of thousands of times personally and licenses trained clinicians internationally to offer the technique under his protocol.
