What is included

A comprehensive private screen, explained plainly.

A full comprehensive private STI screen tests for the infections that matter most in one appointment. Which samples are taken depends on your exposure history. The clinician confirms the exact panel with you before anything is drawn or swabbed.

  • HIV 1 and 2 (4th generation combo)

Antigen and antibody test on blood. Detects infection from around 28 days after exposure.

  • Syphilis (TPHA and RPR)

Confirmatory antibody test plus an active-infection marker. Blood sample.

  • Chlamydia (NAAT)

Urine, vulvovaginal or urethral swab. Throat and rectal swabs added where relevant.

  • Gonorrhoea (NAAT)

Same sample as chlamydia. Throat and rectal swabs strongly advised for oral or receptive anal exposure.

  • Hepatitis B (surface antigen, core antibody, surface antibody)

Blood test that confirms active infection, past exposure and vaccine-induced immunity.

  • Hepatitis C (antibody)

Blood test. Positive results reflex to hepatitis C RNA for confirmation.

  • HSV-1 and HSV-2 IgG (optional)

Type-specific herpes serology if requested. Swab of any active lesion where visible.

  • HPV (if cervical screening due)

High-risk HPV testing on a cervical sample. Added when routine cervical screening is due.

Window periods

When each test becomes reliable after exposure.

A test done too early can miss a real infection. If you test inside the window, we recommend a repeat once the window closes. The clinician will map your specific dates against these ranges before booking.

Infection Reliable window from exposure
HIV (4th generation combo) 28 to 45 days from exposure
Syphilis 12 weeks from exposure
Chlamydia 14 days from exposure
Gonorrhoea 14 days from exposure
Hepatitis B 6 weeks, with a repeat at 12 weeks
Hepatitis C 6 weeks, with a repeat at 12 weeks

Sample types

What is actually taken at the appointment.

Most comprehensive screens combine one blood draw with one or two swab or urine samples. Which swabs are added is guided by the exposure sites you describe. The whole appointment usually takes 20 to 30 minutes.

  • Blood

A single venous draw covers HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HSV serology.

  • Urine

First-catch urine covers chlamydia and gonorrhoea NAAT in people with a penis.

  • Vulvovaginal or urethral swab

Self-collected vulvovaginal swab is the preferred sample for chlamydia and gonorrhoea NAAT in people with a vagina.

  • Throat swab

Added for anyone reporting oral exposure. Pharyngeal gonorrhoea is often silent.

  • Rectal swab

Added for anyone reporting receptive anal exposure. Rectal chlamydia and gonorrhoea are frequently missed on urine alone.

Options

Three ways to run a private screen.

The right choice depends on how recent the exposure is, how quickly you want an answer, and whether you want to combine the screen with cervical health.

  • 20 minutes

    Same-day rapid HIV

4th generation finger-prick antigen and antibody test with a result inside 20 minutes at clinic. Best paired with a full panel for anything outside the HIV window.

    £60 to £120

  • 24 to 72 hours

    Full comprehensive panel

The standard 8-panel screen covering HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HSV where requested. Suitable for routine screening after a new partner.

    £280 to £450

  • 3 to 5 days

    Extended panel with HPV

Everything in the comprehensive panel plus high-risk HPV testing and cervical screening where due. Sensible if you are combining an STI check with cervical health.

    £450 to £650

Frequently asked

The questions we get asked most.

Confidentiality, insurance, window periods and how results reach you.

  • Is a private STI screen confidential?

Yes. Your appointment is booked in plain terms, records are kept private to the clinic, and nothing is shared with your NHS GP unless you specifically ask for that. Payment card statements show a generic clinic descriptor.

  • Do you handle partner notification?

Yes, discreetly. If a result comes back positive we can help notify current or recent partners anonymously through a secure tracing service, or coach you through doing it yourself. Nothing happens without your say-so.

  • Will my private medical insurance cover a full STI screen?

Most standard policies do not cover asymptomatic screening but will cover diagnostic testing when there are symptoms or a known exposure. We flag which parts of the panel are likely to be reimbursable and which are usually self-funded.

  • How long should I wait after possible exposure before testing?

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea from 14 days. HIV 4th generation from 28 to 45 days. Syphilis from 12 weeks. Hepatitis B and C at 6 weeks with a repeat at 12 weeks. Testing earlier is possible but a negative result inside these windows should be repeated.

  • Can I get a full screen if I have no symptoms?

Yes. A routine screen after a new partner, at the start of a relationship, or as part of an annual health check is one of the most common reasons people book. No symptoms are needed and no explanation is required at the appointment.

  • How do I get my results online?

Once samples reach the laboratory you receive a secure link by SMS or email. The portal is password-protected and results appear as each assay completes, so HIV rapid and chlamydia often land before hepatitis serology.
