The problem

The right treatment, in the right hands, at the right dose.

RF microneedling is not one treatment - the platform matters. Sylfirm X for redness and melasma, Secret RF for scars and laxity, Morpheus8 for jawline. Most clinics only own one and pitch it for everything.

  • Consultant, not delegated

The prescribing doctor should assess and treat you - not sign a prescription for a nurse on a busy rota.

  • Right product for your indication

Not what a clinic happens to stock. The best clinics carry a range and match product to problem.

  • Realistic dose and review

Under-dosing wastes your money; over-dosing destroys the result. A two-week review is where good outcomes are made.

Who it suits

When rF microneedling (Sylfirm / Secret RF) is the right choice.

The patients we see most, plus the one honest reason we sometimes say no.

  • You have looked at this in the mirror for a while

Something that has bothered you for months or years, not a same-day impulse - the best-outcome aesthetic patients are the ones who have thought about it.

  • You want a natural change, not a transformation

You want to look like yourself, rested. Small changes across sessions beat big changes in one visit.

  • You have tried topical or over-the-counter routes

Skincare, exercise, dietary adjustment where relevant - and the change you want is not achievable that way.

  • You are stable on medications and health

Not pregnant, breastfeeding, unwell or on active immunosuppression. Aesthetic treatments are elective - they belong when your health is settled.

  • You are prepared for the downtime

Some treatments have real downtime (5–10 days for peels or Morpheus8).

  • You are willing to commit to a course

Some treatments need a course of three, four or six to deliver. We tell you before you book - not after the first session.

  • You want a consultant, not a walk-in

A named prescribing doctor or dermatologist assesses and treats you, not a rotating nurse list. That is what we route to.

  • Red flag: you were rejected elsewhere and asked us to override

If another clinician has said no on medical grounds - pregnancy, unstable illness, keloid history - we will not route you round that. We will explain why.

Options

One-off, course-based, or a combination pathway.

What each option involves - single-session versus course, standalone versus combined, and when the right answer is to postpone or refer.

  • Consultation and planning

A named consultant assesses your face or body, discusses realistic outcomes, and plans one treatment or a staged course. This is where good aesthetic medicine differs from beauty-clinic upselling.

  • Single-session treatments

Some things - Botox, filler, HydraFacial - work as a single session with a review two weeks later.

  • Course-based protocols

Morpheus8, RF microneedling, skinboosters, EmSculpt NEO - these need three to six sessions to deliver.

  • Combination pathways

The strongest aesthetic results come from combining modalities - filler plus threads plus Ultherapy, or exosomes after RF. We plan across the year, not the visit.

  • Maintenance

Most treatments need annual or six-monthly maintenance. We build this into the plan up front, so you know the ongoing commitment.

  • Regenerative alternatives

Polynucleotides, exosomes and PRP are increasingly used instead of, or alongside, filler and toxins.

  • Device-based tightening

Ultherapy, Sofwave, Morpheus8, Sylfirm X - each device fits a different skin and laxity pattern. Consultant-owned clinics get to choose across the range.

  • When to say no or refer for surgery

For heavy laxity, structural change or medical concerns, we route to consultation with a plastic surgeon or dermatologist rather than under-delivering with non-surgical work.

Safety and recovery

What to expect afterwards - honestly.

Non-surgical aesthetic treatments are generally low-risk in consultant hands. The things worth planning are candidacy, dose, downtime and what happens if something is not right.

  • A named consultant, in a licensed medical clinic

Aesthetic medicine belongs in medical settings under CQC or equivalent oversight - not beauty rooms. We only route to those. The consultant who assesses you is the consultant who treats you.

  • Realistic outcomes, spelled out

Non-surgical treatments have real limits. We tell you what a treatment can and cannot do - and if you are hoping for surgical-level change from a non-surgical treatment, we say so before you book.

  • Bruising, swelling, tenderness

Almost every injectable and device-based treatment causes some bruising or swelling. We plan around events, and we tell you honestly how many days of downtime to expect.

  • Rare but serious risks

Vascular occlusion (filler), scarring (peels, laser), pigment change (any resurfacing), nerve irritation (thread lift). Consultant training and current-generation devices lower every one of these.

  • Contraindications matter

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infection, autoimmune flare, keloid tendency, active cancer or recent radiotherapy, unstable diabetes - all reasons to postpone or refuse a treatment. We ask, and we listen.

  • Product provenance

The single strongest safety signal is where the product came from. We insist on licensed distributors - never grey-market imports of toxin, filler, exosome or biostimulator.

  • Aftercare and a same-day number

Written and messaged aftercare before you leave, plus a phone number that answers on the day. Aesthetic complications improve dramatically with early intervention.

  • Two-week review, included

A follow-up at 10–14 days for injectables, 4–6 weeks for devices - included in the price. Small adjustments are cheaper and safer than reset from scratch.

  • Red flags after treatment

Rapidly worsening pain, blanching or dusky skin, visual change, spreading redness or fever need same-day contact with the treating clinic - not a wait-and-see call the next morning.

Reading your treatment record

Your treatment record in four parts. Read the last one first.

Whichever treatment you chose, the record the clinic sends you keeps to the same shape.

A consultant reviewing an aesthetic treatment record

A quiet reminder

Keep every batch number, product name and device setting on file - it matters if anything goes wrong.

If you would like us to review a record from another clinic before your next treatment, just ask.

  1. 01 Assessment

    What was recommended and why

The consultant’s written note on your skin, anatomy and goals - plus the treatment plan and the alternatives that were considered.

  2. 02 Product / Device

    What was actually used

Named product batches for injectables, device settings for energy-based treatments, and the volume or number of shots delivered. Keep this - it matters if there is any adverse event.

  3. 03 Photos

    Before-and-after documentation

Standardised photos taken before and at review, kept on the clinic record. Ask for copies for your own file.

  4. 04 Plan

    Follow-up, top-ups, maintenance

Read this first: when to come back, what maintenance is realistic, and what red flags need same-day attention.

Cosmetic aesthetic treatments are almost never funded by UK private medical insurance - they are self-pay. NHS provision is also very limited except where a medical indication (e.g. blepharospasm, hyperhidrosis, post-cancer reconstruction) applies.

Frequently asked

Everything we get asked about rF microneedling (Sylfirm / Secret RF).

Quick answers on candidacy, downtime, safety, cost and results.

  • Sylfirm X vs Secret RF vs Morpheus8 - which is right?

Sylfirm X uses pulsed-wave RF that targets vascular structures - best for melasma, rosacea, redness, sensitive skin. Secret RF and Morpheus8 use continuous-wave RF at deeper depths - best for laxity, acne scars, textural change. A consultant will match platform to indication.

  • Is RF microneedling safe on darker skin?

Yes - because the energy bypasses the epidermis via insulated needles. Sylfirm X in particular has strong data in Fitzpatrick IV–VI skin, including for melasma. Still requires a patch test and cautious first session.

  • How much downtime is there?

Redness for 24–48 hours, mild pinpoint scabbing for 2–4 days. Most patients are back to normal within 3–4 days. Deeper Secret RF sessions on scars can produce 5–7 days of visible tracking.

  • How many sessions do I need?

Three sessions at 4–6 week intervals for general skin quality. Acne scars often need four to six sessions. Melasma protocols usually run monthly for four sessions plus maintenance.

  • Is it painful?

Numbing cream for 45 minutes first, then a warm stinging sensation. Sylfirm X on the face is generally well-tolerated. Deeper Secret RF settings can be uncomfortable - nitrous oxide or nerve blocks help.

  • How much does RF microneedling cost in the UK privately?

Roughly £450–£800 for a single Sylfirm X session, £500–£950 for Secret RF, £1,300–£2,300 for a course of three Sylfirm X, and £1,500–£2,700 for Secret RF. Consultant-operated clinics sit at the top of the range.
