Symptoms

What Ebstein's anomaly can look like.

  • Neonatal cyanosis

    A blue newborn with tachypnoea, poor feeding and heart failure - a severe presentation needing urgent tertiary transfer.

  • Tricuspid regurgitation murmur

    A soft pansystolic murmur at the lower left sternal edge - often the first physical clue.

  • Exercise intolerance

    Children and adolescents may tire quickly, breathless on climbing stairs or during PE - early right heart limitation.

  • Palpitations and SVT

    Sudden fast heart rhythms driven by an accessory pathway - a common way older children and adults come to attention.

  • Fatigue and dyspnoea

  • Can I have children?

    For most women with Ebstein’s, pregnancy is well tolerated with the right preparation. Planning starts before conception in a specialist maternal cardiology clinic with joint obstetric and ACHD care. Recurrence risk in the baby is small but should be discussed.
